They took such an intricate story, with such intense characters and managed to present it in a really ‘meh’ way. It’s a parboiled movie experience. Freud’s and Jung’s discussions, Jung’s stress from their falling out, that according to the historical accounts propelled him into a nervous breakdown lasting for years was all portrayed in this utterly colorless way. And Keira Knightly’s Sabina Spielrein simply irritated me, from her sickly looking bony body, to the uncontrollable jaw spasming, to the incredibly unerotic and unsexual way she went about the whole ‘it excited me’ thing. Sad panda face.
